This is Part 1 of a four-part series on trauma and dissociation.  Each part of the series is a stand-alone training, but in it’s entirety the series will deepen the participant’s knowledge of assessing and treating trauma and dissociation in children and adolescents.  In Part 1, the focus will be on reviewing relevant research and using diagnostic criteria to better understand Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Dissociative Disorders.

Upon concluding this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define and describe the impact of trauma on children and adolescents
  • Demonstrate knowledge of recent research on trauma and dissociation
  • Assess using diagnostic criteria for trauma and dissociation

 

Karen Sullivan, LCSW-S, RPT-S, EMDR Approved Consultant, is a graduate of UH – GCSW.  She began her career as a caseworker and supervisor at CPS in  Sexual Abuse units.  She then worked as a therapist at advocacy centers in both Harris and Fort Bend Counties. In the last 13 years of private practice, Karen continues to specialize in trauma, grief, sexual assault, and attachment.  She frequently testifies on these matters in both civil and criminal courts.
